Health insurance enrolment crosses 30 million

Coverage now reaches 14% of the population. Critics note that rural enrolment lags urban centres by a wide margin.

The Federal Ministry of Health published the disaggregated figures on Monday: 22.4 million of the 30 million enrolees come from the four most urbanised states. Rural Sokoto, Kebbi, Jigawa, Yobe, and Borno together account for less than 1.8 million.

Health Minister Prof. Pate acknowledged the gap and announced a ₦40 billion supplementary appropriation for the rural-coverage acceleration programme, due to begin in Q3.
